A question for seamstresses/lolis on my f-list.

I'm planning on making a purple loli skirt for myself this break out of some fabric David's mother sent me. Style wise, I'm thinking classic-loli a-line, like a Mary Magdalene piece. ( http://www.marymagdalene.jp/contents/dress/212/0108/ or http://www.flickr.com/photos/14197053@N03/sets/72157622192052597/ ) I'm going to add a lining with a visible ruffle below the hem of the main skirt.

Now, question! For the high-waist skirt, if I'm not adding shirring, would it be better to use boning or interfacing to keep the waist from bunching? (Also, would I do a gored skirt or a more normal a-line?)

I don't think boning will achieve the effect you're going for, but I've seen interfacing done to help skirt retain their crinoline shape. You might try making or assembling your own crinoline and draping the skirt over that.

Oh, not the crinoline shape - that'll be taken care of by a petticoat. I mean more how smooth the waist is despite how tall it is - I don't want it to sag at all. (I suppose if I just make sure the waist of the skirt fits perfectly, I don't need anything, but.) The second example has the waist type I meant. :)

I think a heavier interfacing would suffice, personally. I don't know that it'd be worth putting boning into something like that.
