Date: 2010-09-01 01:41 am (UTC)But yeah, we deal some with actual archaeological stuff - how do you approach excavation, what are the ethics, case studies, etc - but also a LOT of more general anth stuff about funerary practices/beliefs. After all, it's the living who choose how the dead are buried. :D

Date: 2010-09-01 02:59 am (UTC)Seriously, these kids prattle on about the inanest things. Some are in both my anth class and my soc class this semester. There was a ten minute conversation about fake ids and things that make you headdesk to hear from 17 year olds.
Like complaining about the class. On the first day. When we've NOT. DONE.ANYTHING. YET. Can it be time for me to transfer and take upper level courses where, you know, people want to be there? (I wanna do my internship already. I may be able to do it at the FREAKING SMITHSONIAN. :D)
I wish I knew the majors of folks taking the physical anth class--there are only a few of us whom I am certain are anth majors, because they were in my cultural anth class. I can't imagine many folks just taking it to fill an elective. It's a pretty particular course.
(Upside--in doing the bit where the teacher goes 'make a list of what separates humans from other animals BUT HA see evidence that others show these traits too', she showed a clip about Paul the Psychic Octopus. I freaking love this anth teacher. I wish she was not our only anthroplogist, because she doesn't like linguistics and I would kill for a linguistic anth class jesus)
