A few things.

+ Swings are awesome
+ Blueberry poptarts now equal SPSS data entry, after two summers spent conditioning the relationship
+ Otakon is going to be awesome (though I'm sad that Scott and Canli won't be there :< )
+ I made sweetened red bean paste today! And it tastes good!

+ Last Exile, on reflection, is surprisingly pretty good in feminist terms! I never actually thought about it, but yesterday I decided to do a quick run through of cast and plots, expecting it to be not so good. But, at least in how I focused on the show, there was a good ratio of female to male characters, Delphine was evil not because she was female but because she was a hedonist and even more classist than the rest of the characters the show didn't approve of, and most of the girls' plots didn't revolve entirely around men (though they did to a disproportionate amount). Maybe I should go through systematically and see if my first think through was on target?
+ (By the way, this doesn't make me any happier about Sophia-as-princess needing to have her ass saved by a shining white knight. (Even if I ship Sophia and Vince anyway.))
+ Definitely going to switch majors to Anth
+ Planning some scarves for sale for the fall (local hand-made sale show) at my teacher's suggestion; what are fairly popular colors right now?

*happy sigh* I do love Last Exile. So much. I don't mind the Sophia storyline too much because even though she's a princess (which generally sucks) she got to be kick-ass a lot. :P

Otakon! I'm planning on coming for at least Saturday, though I might stay for Sunday if I can find somewhere to crash. Unfortunately I have dance stuff through Friday night...

We should hang out! I was planning on being in general steampunk on Saturday, I think, but I can break out the Sophia costume, too, if you want to get together for Last Exile geekery :D Or switch so that steampunk is Friday and Sophia is Saturday. Hmmm...

It's not so much what actually happens in that scene, it's just... it doesn't seem like Sophia at all to be crying on a bed and not actively trying to figure out a way outside or like, writing a last letter to Marius or something. In my head-canon, for when I write fic, I have things in place to explain it (basically, shitty childhood), but in the context that the show gives, it just seems a bit out of character.

Definitely! Closer to the date we can exchange phone numbers and such. I probably won't be cosplaying at all, because I have a dance intensive the week before and won't have time to get anything together. But I'd love to see either your Sophia costume or your steampunk outfit. ^_^

Yeah, that does seem out of character for her. It's actually been a really long time since I watched the show, so I've sort of re-written canon in my mind. :P

Don't worry, I've totally done that, too. It's to the point that I don't remember which political shenanigans are in the series/supplementary materials and which I made up. /o\ (Because I do so love me a story of Sophia running things post-series, even if I never write them. XD Beware, though - I might start rambling to you at Otakon about my brilliant! BRILLIANT! (... uh huh.) Beauty and the Beast AU subversion wherein Sophia ends up cutting all her hair short and becoming a revolutionary.)

I think it came out in 2004. And I ran a panel on it the summer of 2006? or 2007. One of the two. I've seen it all the way through 3 or 4 times.

Vince is really growing on me, not least because the boy thing looks a bit like him! XD Also, he's just... healthier, ya know? As a partner for Sophia?

My usual approach is to admit to Alex/Sophia tension (though sometimes more, pre-series, but never omg romantic love from both ends) during the series, with Vincent as an outsider because of that and other reasons, but Vince and Sophia courting maybe a year or two post-series, after they've worked together rebuilding the world.

Pretty much! XD For me, Alex/Sophia is omfg sexual tensionnnn but realistically, it wouldn't work out, at least not in the long run. It's conflicting! Hence why I write AUs, I guess- it allows it to work out eventually.

I think that was one of the reasons I liked LE so much. As much of a crazy shipper I am, I liked how romance wasn't really a focus of the show. All the girls did pretty well on their own. The only thing that bothered me a lot was how Euris was more of a plot device, than a character.

This is true. Part of why that bothers me is silly (because her-as-plot-device getting in the way of Alex/Sophia makes me sad/doesn't seem like a valid reason), but part of it is definitely that she was set up as a character who WOULD have been strong and interesting and wonderful, but we never saw that.

I feel exact same way! Even the silly reason. Alex/Sophia is my OTP for LE, but I can only see them developing a lasting relationship after Delphine is gone, and Alex works out his issues. So You can put me in the AU lover boat too.

Also, it might be just me but I get so nervous trying to write for Euris in fan fics. I have enough trouble keeping everyone in character to begin with, and then I have to make up a personality for her based on what little we do see...
