Finally! Progress pictures!

I didn't get around to doing the lining yesterday because I crashed after work from a lack of food. D:

This is the lining, still has to be sewn up on the sides. The same fabric will make up the sash. :3 It's the easiest fabric I'm working with XD It unravels the least.

The dress itself. Note that the piping along the top is actually sewn to the fabric facing down on the outside of the dress. Once the lining is in, it will become the top seam of the dress and will be in the position that I folded it into... and the fabric beneath it will also be pressed flat and probably top-stitched XD

Oh, and my dress form (THOUGH IT'S A SMALL) is STILL bigger than I am on the lowest settings. So the dress isn't quite as about-to-burst tight on me.

Close up on the sleeve. I'm not sure exactly what to do to get them to look better. D: I'll include a reference picture to show what I'm taking inspiration from, but since I can't fit the wiring through... any ideas? Does it look okay like this?

I'm not following this exactly, of course - the dress doesn't have a huge gold thing on the front (that will be conveyed with a necklace that looks sort of like that) and my sleeves have embroidery, and my dress (though it isn't trimmed yet) will be mid-thigh length (in the picture, it looks like she's in a leotard with a skirt over it - mine will be a dress with a skirt over it). Thoughts? Opinions?

Meanwhile, work is overwhelming, but I'll get the hang of it. It feels weird to only go once a week. D: I want more hours!

Ooooh so very nice.
Argh sewing is so complicated. People tell me anyone can sew with a pattern, so not true. -__- Patterns look even more complicated.

As for the sleeves - I am not sure you could ever get it to poof off your shoulder like that (aside from using a very stiff fabric, and those itch), but maybe you could get it to have more folds in it by sewing each end of the fabric "bunched up" inside the dress? It looks good already, anyway. xD;

XD It already is gathered, actually. The problem is that the fabric is so fluid that it doesn't hold the gathers well T_T But if you think it looks good already~

MSN, please? Please? XDDD *is such a yippy dog*

Looks wonderful!

I think you're doing the best you can with the sleeves it seems. The only suggestion I could think of is to use the folds like it has in the pic and TONS of fabric starch to stiffin it into form? That is if you want it poofy like that. Or a clear plastic form underneath. I think what you have looks good though and will probably end up to be prettier than the ref when it's finished.

I envy your mad sewing skills. Hang in there with the secretary job. I found it takes a couple months to get used to that level of multi tasking ><;; But it is STILL hard on me.

I'd starch it, but the fabric is transparent - the starch would show as ugly little dots of stuff between the threads, so I'm nervous about doing that. I may try ungathering it and regathering it to get a few more folds in...

The sleeves are huuuuuge. That's a hard one, too! I agree with [livejournal.com profile] pandara, maybe use a lot more fabric and try to gather it so it hangs like it does in the photo? Stiff transparent fabric isn't too hard to find... it might be a bit more uncomfortable but it'd probably hold the shape better.

Looks good though, I have no idea what the source material is but it looks pretty good to me. ^^ The colour and material seems to match perfectly at the very least.

PS Jealous of your dressform like woah.

There's no way I'm redoing the embroidery, so I'm using the fabric I already have :P 20 hours to finish the sleeves, so... yeah. No way I'm redoing that. Regathering is an option, though.

It's Final Fantasy Five ^^

And the dress form is NO USE because I'm smaller than it and proportioned differently. Meh. Just makes for taking better progress pics. XD

It's gorgeous so far, but I just have a question about the dress color.. isn't it lavender-ish and not blue?

It is. I'm taking liberties with the colors to make it look better (And I can get away with that because I'm mixing Amano and the CG to an extent, and he used yellow or blue or white... so I think I'm okay). The gold material I'm using for my sash is gold, not pale yellow, and that was another decision on my part.

:3 I'm actually glad you noticed that XD Observant girl, you &heart&
